Mentoring

FAMILIES PLUS provides long term clinically based mentoring for at risk children.

Characteristics of successful prevention programs are:

  • LONG TERM
  • START EARLY IN LIFE
  • SPAN THE MANY SETTINGS OF THE CHILD’S LIFE

FAMILIES PLUS enrolls children into the programs when they are young, between 0 and 12 year of age. Children enter with the VOLUNTARY CONSENT of their parents. The children enrolled in our program have several at-risk factors, such as early trauma, special education needs, a parent who is disabled, substance abusing parents, parents with critical health problems, or low resource conditions in the family.

Family mentoring works gradually to help provide the child with stability and strong role models for healthy family life.

The child is included in the mentoring family's normal, everyday activities: homework, folding laundry, attending kids' school activities, etc. The amount of time that the child spends with his mentoring family may vary, but the child comes to know that his mentoring family will be there for him consistently, every week, over the long haul.

Family mentoring works gradually to help provide the child with stability and strong role models for healthy family life.
