In some families, everything goes wrong at once, and then it just keeps getting worse. Within this chaotic environment, children can miss essential lessons at school and needed support at home. About 3 percent of families have persistent and disruptive ongoing problems.
Families Plus is a uniquely crafted community nonprofit that wraps long-term support around such families so that children can thrive and grow up to be healthy, educated, and productive young adults.
Many children in Delta County suffer from deficient care, discord in the home, early trauma, chronic poverty, parental desertion, and behavioral problems. Families Plus supports these 3 percent of children who live in homes with few resources, little stability, and gaps in positive role modeling. Of the 60 children currently enrolled in our program, 74 percent live on public assistance. The families and children who we serve face other substantial barriers as well.
