Research
What is research-based?
FAMILIES PLUS provides support for children that fit the
prescription for preventing problems in adolescence.
Research clearly directs that prevention programs must
provide services that are:
- LONG TERM
- BEGUN EARLY IN LIFE
- ACROSS MANY SETTINGS
Research in Progress
FAMILIES PLUS has a research program designed with input
from the staff of the Center for the Prevention of
Violence at the University of Colorado. In order to do
scientific research, it is necessary to assign
participants to two different support types by the luck
of the draw. This research design provides all children
with a family friend for the family, organizational
support and the support of the FAMILIES PLUS
organization on a long term basis. By random assignment,
sixty percent of the children will also be matched with
a family that mentors. This design will allow the
research results to determine what is necessary in order
to prevent problems in adolescence and young adulthood.
Each child and family in the program will be assessed
annually with the following measures:
- Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist Teacher Version
- Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist Parents Version
- Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist Parents Version by
mentoring family
- Child Depression Inventory Short Form
- Average School Grades
- Serious Problems Index
- Symptom Checklist 90-R Short Form for Parents
- Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales - IV
(Faces -IV)
