Another successful EEDC outing! This time, our youth explored Confluence Park. Though the morning started off chilly, the day warmed up after plenty of running around on the playground, throwing rocks at the frozen lake, and drinking yummy hot chocolate. Thanks to volunteers from Friends of Youth and Nature, we learned about winter ecology, animal adaptations and habitats, and learned how to survive in the winter. A major highlight of the day was the new friendships made. One of our young boys went out of his way to befriend a youth with visible disabilities. He stood by him the whole day and helped him feel welcome and included. These types of interactions are so important to the social-emotional development of our youth. Whether they initiate it, see it happening, or experience it first hand, these positive interactions make a huge difference. We look forward to working with the community to provide more awesome adventures for our youth!
